Expanding…. four feet at a time

Expanding…. four feet at a time

and Random Thoughts
It's been a while since we have updated everyone. In the last few weeks we have had four lambs born. The latest member is oreo. She is the cutest spotted lamb we have. Her mom is a first time mother and doing a fantastic job. [caption id="attachment_155" align="alignnone" width="300"] Newest lamb added to the herd.[/caption] We are working on building her a shelter to keep them dry since there is rain forecasted by our local weatherman. I'm signing off for today, going to grab a cup of coffee and head out to keep cutting wood and buikding more shelters. With rain tomorrow I'll work on texturing Sheetrock. Give is a call if you need an estimate BTW: the incubator is full. The cat is pregnant and due any day. The…

Construction math meets chicken math

Construction math meets chicken math

and Random Thoughts
When we first started the construction business, Wollman Construction, Inc., it was quickly apparent construction math was going to take place. construction math you say? Well.... it's a lot like chicken math. Here's how chicken math works. If the coop hold 12 chickens, younpurcjase 12 chickens. Then a month later you stop by TSC and see it's chick days. You come home with 6 chicks. The next month you adopt 4 more birds..... in the end, you're unsure how many birds you have, only that you could always use a few more....   Enjoy these Chicken Math Memes     Time to head back back to my cup of coffee and think of how many construction tools I'm going to need to acquire this year and how many more chickens…

Why is my attic full of moisture????

Why is my attic full of moisture????

Contractors Tips And Ticks
Last post we spoke about a client whose attic had high moisture levels. Clifford had checked for penetration through the roof deck, because common causes of water damage on interior ceilings are roof leaks. Clifford's inspection revealed no damage on the roof which would cause water to penetrate into the attic and cause damage. Upon entering the attic, the interior of the attic was inspected for non-common causes of moisture entering the attic. This is the first unusual thing which greeted us once we entered the attic space. [caption id="attachment_85" align="alignnone" width="300"] bathroom vent, vented into attic[/caption] This is a bathroom fan which is being vented into the attic space. Image ever time you take a bath or shower,...... think of all the moisture which is being sucked out of the…

It’s still cold outside

It’s still cold outside

Contractors Tips And Ticks, Uncategorized
This morning it was 0F when I woke up with a 'feels like' of -13F. (oh how I dislike the windchill) As I stood in my kitchen shivering I gazed out the windows and noticed the curtains were moving. They were moving not because of the furnace kicking on or children running past, but rather were moving due to the colossal amount of wind permeating through the windows. The windows in my kitchen were installed less than 10 years ago. By the standard then, they were top of the line windows. A great deal has changed in term of windows in the last 10 years. The window industry has improved their insulated frames, and even started to change over to triple pane windows. I know it's the cliche, the contractors…

Oh My It’s Cold Outside

Contractors Tips And Ticks
I've been away from my desk for a couple weeks finishing year end 'stuff'. Here were my final thoughts at the close of 2016. My apologies for the long delay in getting it published. -Stephanie [caption id="attachment_57" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Trees and flower bed after a blustery winter storm[/caption] As I slowly sip my coffee this blustery morning, I hear Michael Bublé crooning in the background. He is softly singing through the speaker, “Oh the weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful…. It doesn’t show signs of stopping… Let is snow, let it snow, let it snow…..” Let is Snow is a classic Christmas Carol which we have always enjoyed. This weekend it accurately described the weather: frightful. Sioux Falls, South Dakota was hit with an Arctic blast,…

Today as I gaze out the office window

Contractors Tips And Ticks
Today as I gaze out the office window, I see a frozen blanket of icy white fluff. It serves as a reminder of all we have to be thankful for. I am thankful for the warmth of the office here at Wollman Construction. It has not always been warm in my office. When the office was moved to its current location last year, it was warm and sunny. As the days changed and progressed the office began to reflect the temperatures outside. In the midst of a cold spell last year, while bundled up in snow pants, scarf, winter boots, gloves, and a parka, I knew something had to change. I started investigating the crawl space beneath the floor and the attic. The crawl space was adequately insulated, but the…
